Ask Lo Q&A

Question:

Dear Lo,

I purchased your Inner Child webinar and loved it. I have the following questions:

1. Do the exercises (photograph, letter writing, etc. ) need to be done in any particular order or can I pick any to begin?

2. Can the letter to my inner child (IC) be written immediately, even before I start the daily 30 second check-in to get to know my IC?

3. I recently did some IC work for a particular situation. I sat with myself, tried to talk to my IC, and asked what she felt about this situation. And I believe I got an answer from her. How do I know if that was my IC or just my adult self? It was only the second time I tried to connect with my IC.

Thank you!

Answer:

Dear Shalini,

First of all, thank you so much for purchasing my Inner Child workshop. I’m so glad you enjoyed it, and I love these follow-up questions!

  1. The inner child exercises can be done in any order. I often encourage beginners to start with the 30 second check-in while looking at their childhood picture because it is a short, relatively easy exercise that acts as a good introduction to this work. It is also a good daily practice for consistency because it is quick and can be done anywhere and at any time. However, if you feel ready to dive into any and/or all of these exercises right away, go for it. You can pick and choose what is best for your particular situation and comfort level. If you start to feel overwhelmed, just know that you can always slow down and ease your way into it at a pace that feels right for you.

  2. You can certainly start with the inner child letter before (or in addition to) the 30 second daily check-in exercise. I encourage my clients to trust their intuition and move forward with whatever feels right for them. There is no right or wrong approach as long as you feel comfortable and find the work healing and beneficial.

  3. Great work checking in with your inner child when you felt triggered in your present day. What a beautiful way to soothe and support yourself through this situation! I truly believe that if you felt connected to your inner child, then she indeed showed up for you in that moment. Again, I am a big believer in trusting your intuition and leaning into what feels right. When you set the intention of getting quiet, turning inward, and checking in with your younger self, you created an environment where your inner child felt safe revealing herself to you. Even though you may be new to this work, you can definitely find success in connecting with your younger self early on in the process. It happens for everyone at a different pace - for some, they feel a connection right away while others need to work their way up to it over time. Try to remain open and curious about whatever information comes to you rather than questioning or judging it. We want to stay out of our head and focus on our heart for this process. I trust that you will continue to dive deeper and heal your childhood wounds because of your dedication and open-mindedness to this process. Keep up the awesome work!
